It was meant to be a dinner for 8 but due to people cooking up lame excuses at the very last minute unforeseen circumstances, cancellations had to be made and a table for 8 then became a table for 2. Yes, just the 2 of us, my other half and me.

For $21.90++ ($18.90++ on weekdays), you get to enjoy a selected variety of tim sum, appetizers, steamboat, drinks, desserts and did i mention FREE FLOW Xiao Long Baos too?
This steamboat aka xiao long bao buffet is only available at Crystal Jade’s La Mian Xiao Long Bao Holland Village outlet. The buffet is also available daily and starts and ends promptly at 8.45pm and 1am respectively.
There were a total of 40 steamboat ingredients for you to choose from. I didnt exactly find the selection appealing though. Most of them are what i would prefer to call “bland” items. Mushrooms, fishballs, vegetables and tofu just to name a few. The meats came thinly sliced, think shabu shabu. And they do have a wide variety of sauces offered too! I particular enjoyed the sesame oil and sesame sauce.

How did Crystal Jade’s XLBs fare, you must be wondering. In my opinion, i found them to be almost mediocore. The skin could have been a little thinner though.

And the best dish of the night has got to be the soup base. We opted for pork and corn, which was already so tasty on its own. Oh, each customer will also be entitled to 100g of prawns (3 sticks per pax).

Will i be back again? Probably not. It was a pretty good experience, in the sense that you get to dine in comfort under air-conditioned settings. However, with the variety they’re offering, i think i’d much prefer Chin Huat’s Steamboat Buffet. OMG their mini ECLAIRS are so darn good! Yes i know! Mini eclairs from a steamboat buffet?! Haha
So am i now a steamboat convert?
Oh well, no, not yet.
